It has been a website, a page flip e-zine, a blog site, back to a flip mag and of course KultureBlog.com.<br />
The whole foundation to all of this was and is to serve the Kulture Community. I want to bring awareness to the local kulture scene and the shops and people that make it what it is.<br />
While I have met many people, and have had the chance to be a sponsor at some car, bike and tattoo shows. I still feel like I am not reaching the Kulture on a deeper level. One that helps pull a community together.<br />
<br />
I know this is not going to happen easily or overnight, but frankly the online magazine is not getting the readership levels I had hoped for, a level that makes all of the work that goes into putting a magazine together, seem worth it.<br />
<br />
So I am going back to the drawing board, reviving the KultureBlog and will continue to hammer out a spot in the Kulture community for the magazine, in one form or another. So look for new Kulture Blogs soon.<br />
Proudly Serving the Kulture Commuinity,<br />

Now I'm sure your asking yourself "what the hell is he doing talkin about a bike when he was at one of the premier car shows on the East Coast" ? Well, just take a look at this thing will ya !<br />
<br />
It was put together by a local shop out of Baltimore, Kundatic Kustoms and it is a prime example of the quality of motorcycles<br />
that are now being invited to compete at this invitation only show. <br />
<br />

The frame is a Kraft Tech that was reworked by Kundratic and it has a springer front end.<br />

I hung around looking at the bike for a while and these two features were big conversation starters.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJmxDCcbaLawHcuZaZ6jb9pxMvl_E-pSBZLVVlT2khFgmIDprvrKWpmIpWMhiPUk5gOWkePR3nN34gNbCBQX028OMysdtXqjcWhYoX3_ovLPTzUpGk1E5wv1d9hjM2nXv6dBdZp5baM-g/s1600/Kund+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJmxDCcbaLawHcuZaZ6jb9pxMvl_E-pSBZLVVlT2khFgmIDprvrKWpmIpWMhiPUk5gOWkePR3nN34gNbCBQX028OMysdtXqjcWhYoX3_ovLPTzUpGk1E5wv1d9hjM2nXv6dBdZp5baM-g/s320/Kund+4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Personally one of my favorite features of the bike were the perimeter brakes. They really allowed the wheels to be shown and kept the board tracker look that would have in my opinion been lost had they used a tradition brake set-up.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR21mwC965XyRUL85dVEaRdKZCZ3fhWoyLKc9fKJoDIekcQvhvri9LqsLYaOWcLmIXZZKFOk_yMlvWM5ncWg2MWdd8E5WYIXXvssG7XqwxcqIm4gLOlEt8w0dElFsPiNhnS9Wz3siIGKA/s1600/Kund+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR21mwC965XyRUL85dVEaRdKZCZ3fhWoyLKc9fKJoDIekcQvhvri9LqsLYaOWcLmIXZZKFOk_yMlvWM5ncWg2MWdd8E5WYIXXvssG7XqwxcqIm4gLOlEt8w0dElFsPiNhnS9Wz3siIGKA/s320/Kund+5.jpg" width="251" /></a></div><br />
I love knowing that Maryland is home to some world class custom motorcycle shops and once again a build like this shows that Baltimore truly is the hub of Kulture in our state. You can be sure the next time I am in the area I will stop by the shop, and of course , share the experience with the KultureBlog.com readers. In the meanwhile if you can't get enough of this award winning bike you can check out more pics and specs at their website <a href="http://www.kundratickustoms.com/"><span style="color: blue;">www.KundraticKustoms.com</span></a><span style="color: blue;">.</span><br />

Their shop will be missed in our region, but from the quality of their builds it looks like they are going to be making their mark in the custom building scene for a long while.<br />

The majority of the cafe bikes I've seen have been based on British and Japanese bikes, both of which I love, but seeing this Ironhead made me remember just how well Harley's adapt to being cut, welded and reborn.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTsHxfyljlipAqR8JgcwSWYobUMbYDP-ka9CtMiptXvYYoDPltiUHF_oITAZtAY6h1TW-lt7pRZEAqapf3VUXhgP-lqLld0tgqugzqkaLbuMf_uXRsGH-YUo4b6gl2UZ1PbuFDIN_35Lk/s1600/JR+BIKE+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="253" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTsHxfyljlipAqR8JgcwSWYobUMbYDP-ka9CtMiptXvYYoDPltiUHF_oITAZtAY6h1TW-lt7pRZEAqapf3VUXhgP-lqLld0tgqugzqkaLbuMf_uXRsGH-YUo4b6gl2UZ1PbuFDIN_35Lk/s320/JR+BIKE+3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

This was another show that I had never been able to attend in the past. And as I stated about the last couple of shows I blogged about, its another show I won't miss again. There was a ton of cars and a couple of bikes ( look for more on these bikes later...its gonna be worth the wait too ) . It was complete sensory overload but I got to spend hours at the show taking it all in. One of the cars that got my curiosity up was this 47 Ford you see here. It is owned by Bill from Cumberland, who was gracious and patient in answering my questions and passionate about his Ford.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNdJJ9mYP0pG3_op-LY6DE_oFwuNyMZG61X4a5hc5nybwKRzEMdcvPT-jlxILFHNsYNreQ-Z4lynsa7DrECXXsozBM9EmVCPqC4QPn0cAl5M-4cpoy9qQ8ePvwCItlepGWNnYeKkdgks8/s1600/billford4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNdJJ9mYP0pG3_op-LY6DE_oFwuNyMZG61X4a5hc5nybwKRzEMdcvPT-jlxILFHNsYNreQ-Z4lynsa7DrECXXsozBM9EmVCPqC4QPn0cAl5M-4cpoy9qQ8ePvwCItlepGWNnYeKkdgks8/s320/billford4.jpg" width="320" /></a>What drew me over to the Bill's car was the row of 6 gas cans in the back. I love the look of the old gas cans just strapped on the back looking as though the owner is ready for a run across the dessert with no chance of finding gas.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"> I had figured that they were acting as his gas tank, but I just couldn't figure out how so. Of course I am never afraid of going to the learning tree, so I asked Bill about his street rod and it's unusual gas tank set-up.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2yH6bgZiAP_3N2a29WqN7s4SVf7AVclFpRAVQ0W8MjZjZjzg38MlVGeuTbWr-cze8e5bOWB9sT6riMy6b0mh2_LVg_fCitIvjnS6a7iqsSYTFJFaOKrVqL8tD9k6M2V8iA9Jd_p8SRrA/s1600/billford+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2yH6bgZiAP_3N2a29WqN7s4SVf7AVclFpRAVQ0W8MjZjZjzg38MlVGeuTbWr-cze8e5bOWB9sT6riMy6b0mh2_LVg_fCitIvjnS6a7iqsSYTFJFaOKrVqL8tD9k6M2V8iA9Jd_p8SRrA/s320/billford+5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Bill explained that the first 2 cans are for the batteries and the other 4 are covering a 15 gallon gas tank. With a close eye and lengthy inspection of the set-up I still could not see that hidden tank or batteries. This is a testament to the detail taken in putting this set-up together. Both Bill and his Ford were a real throwback to American Rodding, and I even caught him checking his gas level with his fancy " stick a wooden stick in" fuel checking system.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

It's just not one Ford but a couple of them all in one. The motor is a 1985 300 6 cyclinder, it has an F150 5- speed transmission, and the frame is from a 92 Explorer.It was a real pleasure seeing this car and talking with Bill about it, both are true examples of keeping the Kulture alive.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

What once was the blue-collar working stiffs domain is now an aspiration for even the wealthiest of hot rod enthusiasts. Early rat rods were built out of whatever was on hand or could be picked up cheaply from swap meets and junkyards . There were no fancy high dollar paint jobs in the budget, so usually primer or nothing at all was the feature color.<br />
<br />
Ironically now-a-days there is big money being spent putting together rat rods that are meant to look like junkers.What was once a derogatory term for an unfinished cobbled together, non-period correct mish mash of parts custom build, is now a term and style being embraced by the masses.<br />

While others like myself enjoy seeing this style of build and happy to see it grow.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"> I do admit that there has been a point of outright silliness to some rat rods I've seen, with an overdone amount of festoonery and theme items added. There is also a valid concern that instead of seeing some of these old cars brought back to even nice driver quality or fully restored , that they will be hastily turned into rats just for the sake of jumping on the trend. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">On the other side of the coin, there are plenty of cars and parts that once just sat in a heap and left to rot somewhere are finding new life on the road . This build style has also brought together more of the haves and have nots to the same shows. It also seems to have brought more projects out of the garages and driveways and on to the road and shows, instead of being hidden away until completion. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWl__6gLBxETYnPdtmMdhBwaoMqB27nw4mYAx4MevQKFyaI-RkGyuPwAinNRrbd7kYjZhPrz1wI4b1l0bE-EYV64f1isVF5cv0Mkxq8ZUNKQw2Hm1jZ3_u7izsMqMfONCdf9ovHzK7PWM/s1600/rat+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWl__6gLBxETYnPdtmMdhBwaoMqB27nw4mYAx4MevQKFyaI-RkGyuPwAinNRrbd7kYjZhPrz1wI4b1l0bE-EYV64f1isVF5cv0Mkxq8ZUNKQw2Hm1jZ3_u7izsMqMfONCdf9ovHzK7PWM/s320/rat+4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Some of the creativity that has come out of this style of building is born out of just plain old makin-do with what you have, and the re purposing of stuff from beer cans to tractor parts has shown that with a creative mind and mechanical aptitude, their doesn't have to be a mad dash to Billet-R-Us.com to create a unique rod. It is forcing guys to think out of the box. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">To me it is a sign that there is still creative and talented hands and minds still very much keeping the American Rod Kulture alive and thriving. It is great to see the talent and inspiration that can be found in some of these builds. It is also a great example of how a cool car can be built without a big budget, which in my opinion only helps inspire more involvement in the Kulture.</div><br />

The builder of "Rats Ass" took re purposing to a new lever. Notice the frying pan used as an air cleaner cover, the Cragar Spinner from a rim used as a gas cap, the tractor front end being used as the radiator cover and front end, or my personal favorite the rain gutters being used as exhaust pipes.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyulIjWhmZyq67-um6J3id9bBEPUvgSOhikdHD9qXMAy9WzoT_l85VUC4D-WklmqFEV71004_8RPL1F31PW-vZApFqbwFs9gxJFoTSiIwfXmSAXgRgKr44Ms0Cq995rXdAoZcpIpCEfyQ/s1600/ratgutter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyulIjWhmZyq67-um6J3id9bBEPUvgSOhikdHD9qXMAy9WzoT_l85VUC4D-WklmqFEV71004_8RPL1F31PW-vZApFqbwFs9gxJFoTSiIwfXmSAXgRgKr44Ms0Cq995rXdAoZcpIpCEfyQ/s320/ratgutter.jpg" width="320" /></a>So love them or hate them, it looks like the rat rod is going to be around for a while. Rather than just pass them by, why not take a little time and really look them over, you may be surprised, amused or even blown away by some of the creativity that goes into building these unique and often one of a kind customs.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKkXX7aJ7tZS63G5tlYNIixSGGAqKgSr3MUMHA4RfUIV9UuMYhp_XIweWatXmI5Ki4lMoqc8Ux-B4EgyCAhgx_hu1BNrfFJYK348K4t1op6hSYdzVk1lPxu0AIyfsTUlSIYn9WjpQv4wk/s1600/rats+ass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="205" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKkXX7aJ7tZS63G5tlYNIixSGGAqKgSr3MUMHA4RfUIV9UuMYhp_XIweWatXmI5Ki4lMoqc8Ux-B4EgyCAhgx_hu1BNrfFJYK348K4t1op6hSYdzVk1lPxu0AIyfsTUlSIYn9WjpQv4wk/s400/rats+ass.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>GarageBoyz Magazine's KultureBloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16701688593417884494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-119398846573214934.post-33436214997729893192011-10-10T16:33:00.000-04:002011-10-10T16:33:15.204-04:00Pin Up Girls from the Rockabilly Rumble<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi54Ei7efyj5MFIj3qFF04cjhAKeozntZzEvZjql-kjfUBrcpjXzVkuksOH069NJHaeqtk0lJUxqnXlG5QLt7q7P1x7EvR5zFnymuzVvAU0JlhwBcMbF_QnrgzDCpzIXJoDProOBH3C6iY/s1600/pinup+7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" kca="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi54Ei7efyj5MFIj3qFF04cjhAKeozntZzEvZjql-kjfUBrcpjXzVkuksOH069NJHaeqtk0lJUxqnXlG5QLt7q7P1x7EvR5zFnymuzVvAU0JlhwBcMbF_QnrgzDCpzIXJoDProOBH3C6iY/s320/pinup+7.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYCRDa3jENiuxxVmO3Bg5Xt24ZDya-Pi2GtmW97uISELH9NgCrZjBUKVUOfeJ3WE4TiEimlhZRfHbrJwjblq3f88mWihvNpHDBgxa5sktzl-WpFF61RUdG4HRqYjAU2HT8LNeEbjdFNa8/s1600/pin+up+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" kca="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYCRDa3jENiuxxVmO3Bg5Xt24ZDya-Pi2GtmW97uISELH9NgCrZjBUKVUOfeJ3WE4TiEimlhZRfHbrJwjblq3f88mWihvNpHDBgxa5sktzl-WpFF61RUdG4HRqYjAU2HT8LNeEbjdFNa8/s320/pin+up+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>The Karb Kings were at it again. This time the crew from the VA chapter was in charge of the festivities and they threw a great event The Rockabilly Hot Rod Rumble. Of course the cars and bikes were top notch, and of course you will be seeing plenty of them from this show, on up coming blogs. But today I have to shout out to the ladies of the show, the Betties, the Pin Ups. Seeing these girls at a show help bring it from a good show to a damn good show.<br />
<br />

I don't know how they do it, but the Karb Kings events always attract some of the best pin ups around. It could be the prestige of winning their pinup contest, it could be their greaser good looks or maybe they just love fast cars...I'm betting it a combination of all of it. Either way this show did not disappoint. Every where you looked their was something beautiful to see, from 4 wheels, to 2 wheels, from tasty one-shot lines being laid down or beautiful rockabetties posing for pictures.<br />

<br />
It got me thinking about how important it is that those with knowledge and passion of the Kulture pass it on, or it will just fade away.<br />
So many times people are so wrapped up in just owning their car or bike that they forget how impactful just seeing it can be to the next generation or other people in general . Many of us are into the Kulture because of seeing or hearing, or riding in, or being around one car or bike or group that triggered our desire to own an old piece of American iron, or become a Kulture Artist or whatever.<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div>How often do we forget that the hot rod Kulture can be a family affair. Sure its fun to hand with your buddies, shoot the breeze and talk shit, but what about passing the torch. Most kid's knowledge of cars today stop at what they learned from watching The Fast and the Furious or from the latest video racing game. Why not bring the kids out to a show to see the Kulture, or how about just inviting your kid to come out to the car or bike while your fixing it or just tinkering with it. Your passion and knowledge may just help the future generation love and appreciate the old iron and keep it going.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigysrqX8PS5A0r8tVSfbcwKdITSljo_-1T4JGc4bwuGaBoI06KxXWuNhMLgPbzWWYWsV5DNOkEc_ziLaXhl-W9VGNtpoGg-WvFLNML5VOEvQRLZDgm_74wGWY_a-nj0Ve9uG6C1AGjgAM/s1600/60+camino+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="185" kca="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigysrqX8PS5A0r8tVSfbcwKdITSljo_-1T4JGc4bwuGaBoI06KxXWuNhMLgPbzWWYWsV5DNOkEc_ziLaXhl-W9VGNtpoGg-WvFLNML5VOEvQRLZDgm_74wGWY_a-nj0Ve9uG6C1AGjgAM/s320/60+camino+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Don't let your knowledge or willingness to pass it on end there either. Share it with others too. A great example of this was my running into the guy who owns this driver 60 el camino. I was in the parking lot checking the car out, snapping a couple of pics and thinking how nice is was to see this rough el camino being used as it was intended. I also thought how cool it was that I was out driving my 84 el camino and we were both just in this random thrift store parking lot at the same time. How often do you run into a 1st generation and last generation el camino without being at a cruise-in or show. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxAFm0y1Y-ZMy3eRAzwyrGvppq209NfZEPp7kFQeMEbBg_JBfuefb7vxeOtpZ1mNiNIrrMmjIqWX60jWsySfFPpGU_gxIDfNJP5zxbWqLHVN1RUFsOj42qS-rhvuezO6cVXq9VqwjAp9s/s1600/60+camino+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" kca="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxAFm0y1Y-ZMy3eRAzwyrGvppq209NfZEPp7kFQeMEbBg_JBfuefb7vxeOtpZ1mNiNIrrMmjIqWX60jWsySfFPpGU_gxIDfNJP5zxbWqLHVN1RUFsOj42qS-rhvuezO6cVXq9VqwjAp9s/s320/60+camino+3.jpg" width="320" /></a> As I was checking out the car, the owner came out of the store. We shot the breeze for a minute, and I asked him if it was a 59 or 60. He explained to me that is what a 1960 and that the way to tell was that the 1959 had a flat rear quarter panel , not a raised one and that the rear fins came down the rear hatch more, as well as the lights on a 59 were more cat's eye shaped in-line with the fin shape as opposed to the 1960 having the round rear lights and shorter fins.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"> Here is a perfect example of somebody taking the time to teach, rather that just mumble hello and jump into the car and drive off.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Now because of his quick 5 minute lesson I know more about the cars I love, my passion grew a bit deeper and I can quickly tell a 1959 from a1960. Here I am a 40-something year old guy being taught more about the Kulture that I live and love every day. So imagine how much we could teach the next generation let alone others who want to know or have an appreciation for our old car or bike.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Maybe next time when a kid or somebody else comes up to you and says " hey nice car/bike, what year is it" we can remember to take an extra minute and teach a little, rather than saying " yeah thanks" and driving off. You never know what fire you can set with just one spark of knowledge and sharing.</div>GarageBoyz Magazine's KultureBloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16701688593417884494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-119398846573214934.post-14112640954293057862011-10-06T08:52:00.003-04:002011-10-06T09:09:59.929-04:00Vintage Bikes from Discovery Channels Headquarters Show<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>

They are celebrating the launch of their new channel Velocity. Seeing how I am just 5 minutes up the road, and a mid week mid day car show is a rarity I jumped at the chance. I figured this was a great chance to meet some people and see some top notch local cars & bikes. I was not disappointed.</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJIPxrXR7xit4DhfD2Cgm0ZjqxeyGulfMIeNIdBlh3Wxt-yFKobA2mKTelXEaIZPcMoYWNqWTLd2CRwJw1WNKTmA25heLsyfXaW-7I7UZG_za87i72Ur1bBTMwRelmqkRg_5uSAQ06QPY/s1600/clev4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="246" kca="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJIPxrXR7xit4DhfD2Cgm0ZjqxeyGulfMIeNIdBlh3Wxt-yFKobA2mKTelXEaIZPcMoYWNqWTLd2CRwJw1WNKTmA25heLsyfXaW-7I7UZG_za87i72Ur1bBTMwRelmqkRg_5uSAQ06QPY/s320/clev4.jpg" width="320" /></a>One of the personal highlights of the show was getting the chance to meet and talk with Bob Tyson author of the book Harley-Davidson Memories. Bob is an avid motorcycle collector owning some 30 plus bikes. He brought out two of those bikes, a 1919 Cleveland and a 1950 Sunbeam. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">The Cleveland was a big hit with the crowd. It was in as found condition except for the seat and tires. It was originally a US Dispatch bike and some of the decal identifying it as such is still visible. Bob picked the bike up 20 years ago , and pulled apart the motor and rebuilt the magneto. <br />

Bob felt this bike is a true treasure of American motorcycle history and he is a proud custodian of this piece. It was a pleasure to have had the chance to see the bikes and to talk with Bob and see this historic bike up close. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Look for more for more from this show here on Kulture Blog.com next week. This '23 Ford C-Cab delivery wagon was one of the local cars being shown at the Laurel Lion's Car Show. I liked this car alot as it reminded me of some of the funky hippy wagons I liked as a kid. It just has that 60's anything goes kustom look to me. It is a port-hole bubble window, "Shagin Waggin" lettering and psychedelic<strong> </strong>paint job away from shere perfection. It was a fun car to look at, and I had the pleasure of seeing it again at the Frederick Car Show the next day. This is another car I hope to find out more about in the future and hopefully write up a complete feature article.<br />

Last weekend at the Mobtown Greaseball I met another highly talented guy by the name of Mark Main. He put together a pretty sick rod that has an aggressive stance that looks like it could drive a tunnel through a mountain. But this blog isn't about that rod, its about a detail on it...the straps.</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

Go ahead zoom in on the pics, click em to expand their size and take a close look yourself. No matter how close I got I could not tell until I touched them and sure as hell they're metal...WOW, that is bad ass detail. Mark hand made and painted the straps himself, and is the proud owner of Wayback Machine Company T/A Metal Art Design. His attention to detail is amazing and he truly is an artist and a craftsman. Seeing stuff like this just makes me hope that some where there are some kids who will pick up the craft of metal work and keep this type of handmade creativity alive. So check out the pics and yes...I'll say it again...they're metal. There was something for eveyone at this show, and seeing how this is the 19th annual, I don't see it doing anything but getting bigger for next years 20th annual. Over the next week or so I will be sharing some of the cars and bikes from the show here on the GBM blog. Today's car is a 1955 Chevy Bel Air that to me captured the classic American Hot Rod look and feel, From the Cragar SS wheels to the Hot Rod Flames and side mount exhaust. This Bel Air just did it for me. Sept 17th the Laurel Lions club hosted their annual Endless Summer Car Bike & Truck Show at the Laurel Municipal Center. There was a great turn-out despite the on and off rain showers. While there was a packed field the cars that caught my eye was the collection of funeral cars brought out for the show and owned by Jay Donaldson. Also at the show was my personal favorite, George Hamlin's 1950 Packard Flower Car. The ornate carvings on the cars along with the shear size of these vehicles were attention grabbers. More pics of some of the other amazing cars from the show will be posted soon along with pics from tomorrow's car show at the Frederick MVA.GarageBoyz Magazine's KultureBloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16701688593417884494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-119398846573214934.post-62363833021082071192011-09-14T13:03:00.000-04:002011-09-14T13:18:28.117-04:00A must see local Car Show !<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6zlFMnH5clDlQrmj9g6oii-FkqNTxq7Vt6xuBhF2f8tm4CCOhqZYKioKV_7XGNWVSW558WtEH5FF_E-qEVl9JLe5MZcl58xi1jgCPIo_OiDn3k_2CPTNQMhyphenhyphen6n9vZUNdpTT5xV4oOdBs/s1600/mva+car+show+2011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rba="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6zlFMnH5clDlQrmj9g6oii-FkqNTxq7Vt6xuBhF2f8tm4CCOhqZYKioKV_7XGNWVSW558WtEH5FF_E-qEVl9JLe5MZcl58xi1jgCPIo_OiDn3k_2CPTNQMhyphenhyphen6n9vZUNdpTT5xV4oOdBs/s320/mva+car+show+2011.jpg" width="232" /></a></div>This Sunday at the Frederick MVA parking lot there is an incredible Car Show that gets bigger and better every year. Hosted by the Heart of Maryland Classic Chevy Club and benefits the Alzheimer's Association. Some of the region's top classic and muscle cars are at this show along with vendors and food, there are even a few show bikes that come out to support the cause. The show is from 10-4 and is a great time for the family, admission is by donation. See ya there and be sure to check back here next week for pictures from the show.GarageBoyz Magazine's KultureBloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16701688593417884494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-119398846573214934.post-28309615838844580232011-08-10T14:11:00.000-04:002011-08-10T14:11:28.278-04:00Where to from Here?Changes they are a comin', and they ain't Easy...<br />

I put a ton of hours, money and sacrifice into getting it off the ground. I had hoped to turn it into a local Kulture hub for Montgomery County, Maryland but I learned that I needed to broaden my scope. I build a few different versions of the online magazine, a flash version, a non-flash version, a flip book style, a full page style. Yet I could never really find a way to make it work. The web analytics showed that 1500 people were checking out each issue, which made me feel good, but certainly not the ground swell needed to be successful and not enough of a readership to support turning the magazine into a full time gig.<br />
There are a bunch of online magazine and print magazines in the picture now, and it seems that others have not made it as well and stopped putting out new issues, while others are putting out local print magazines that are getting thinner each month. Heck even some of the national magazines are having a hard time staying afloat.<br />
Now after 11 years I am no longer at the dealership, and I am either unemployed or "chasing the dream", I guess it depends on which day it is. Dispite having all the time to chase the magazine dream, I am facing the fact that turning into a job that makes money and earns me a living is probably not going to happen and it's okay. I have always had bigger ideas for GarageBoyz, and the magazine was and is just a piece of the bigger picture, so know I am going to chase the next part of the dream and try to put a brick and mortar store together just as I stated in Bingo's View in Issue #1.<br />
I still have a burning desire to share the local Kulture community with the world and I still love taking pictures and writing about it so...this Blog will become GarageBoyz Magazine.com . I should have a full transition complete in the next month or so, and I can finally move onto the next chapter and still have a voice in the local Kulture scene.<br />
I appreciate all of the support and friendships that I have made while putting GBM together and I look forward to working with the car, bike and tattoo shops and people even more, with co-hosted events and sponsorships and such. So while GarageBoyz Magazine may no longer have the look or feel it once did, it will have no less Passion,Kulture or Tradition.<br />

I was pretty stoked when Chandler of Dirty Hands Choppers brought by his CB750 build for a FEATURE BIKE article. (Issue 4)<br />
