KultureBlog.com ...Back at it

I've been trying to put the right formula together for GarageBoyz Magazine. It has been a website, a page flip e-zine, a blog site, back to a flip mag and of course KultureBlog.com.
The whole foundation to all of this was and is to serve the Kulture Community. I want to bring awareness to the local kulture scene and the shops and people that make it what it is.
While I have met many people, and have had the chance to be a sponsor at some car, bike and tattoo shows. I still feel like I am not reaching the Kulture on a deeper level. One that helps pull a community together.

I know this is not going to happen easily or overnight, but frankly the online magazine is not getting the readership levels I had hoped for, a level that makes all of the work that goes into putting a magazine together, seem worth it.

So I am going back to the drawing board, reviving the KultureBlog and will continue to hammer out a spot in the Kulture community for the magazine, in one form or another. So look for new Kulture Blogs soon.

Vintage Ram Rods Car Club pics

I got these pictures from Len Cottrell a member of the Ram Rods CC since 1964. They are from some of their shows back in the early 1960's at the National Guard Armory in Washington DC. Their car show eventually went on to become the World Of Wheels Show in DC one of the top National Shows in the country.

They had a garage in the Montgomery County Airpark in Gaithersburg for quite a while, but it now sits empty. I do not know the current status of the club, but would love to hear form anybody that does.

I know the car kulture scene was huge here in the local area in the 1960's and hope that others who were living the life of fast hot rods and kool kustoms of the time would like to share their pics and stories. Vintage Bikes from Discovery Channels Headquarters Show

Phil from Shiftpoint Magazine told me about a Car Show being put on at Discovery Channels headquarters in downtown Silver Spring, MD. They are celebrating the launch of  their new channel Velocity. Seeing how I am just 5 minutes up the road, and a mid week mid day car show is a rarity I jumped at the chance. I figured this was a great chance to meet some people and see some top notch local cars & bikes. I was not disappointed.

One of the personal highlights of the show was getting the chance to meet and talk with Bob Tyson author of the book Harley-Davidson Memories. Bob is an avid motorcycle collector owning some 30 plus bikes. He brought out two of those bikes, a 1919 Cleveland and a 1950 Sunbeam.

The Cleveland was a big hit with the crowd. It was in as found condition except for the seat and tires. It was originally a US Dispatch bike and some of the decal identifying it as such is still visible. Bob picked the bike up 20 years ago , and pulled apart the motor and rebuilt the magneto.

The old 1919 still gets ridden on occasions like antique bike runs and once and awhile for short pleasure rides. Bob felt this bike is a true treasure of American motorcycle history and he is a proud custodian of this piece. It was a pleasure to have had the chance to see the bikes and to talk with Bob and see this historic bike up close.
